Woman Held at Knifepoint Outside South London Home After 18 Months of Harassment – Lewisham Council Ignored Her Pleas

Knife Attack Caught on Camera

A woman known only as Gemma was ambushed outside her Deptford flat by a masked man waving a knife inches from her face. The terrifying assault was caught on Ring doorbell footage on March 27, just before 7:15pm. Despite repeated warnings and clear evidence of threats, no arrest has been made and the attacker remains free.

18 Months of Hell Ignored by Council

Gemma’s nightmare began 18 months ago with constant stalking and harassment by a council tenant neighbour and his violent associates. She reported:

  • Being followed and stalked
  • Door banging attacks
  • Lighter fluid poured at her doorstep
  • A meat cleaver left outside her home
  • Masked, armed men loitering near her flat

Despite police referrals and video evidence, Lewisham Council initially refused to permanently rehouse her, claiming she didn’t face a “threat to life.”

Council Only Moved After Press Intervention

It took coverage by MailOnline for Lewisham Council to finally act. A spokesperson initially dodged responsibility but later admitted: “We are very sorry she had to experience this. We are working closely with the police, and the case will be reviewed by the Emergency Housing Panel.”

Family Demand Investigation Into Council’s Failures

“For 18 months, my sister begged Lewisham Council for help. She was ignored every step of the way until she was held at knifepoint. This is not just neglect. It’s a system that failed to protect a woman scared for her life,” said Gemma’s sister.

Campaigners now call for a full inquiry into how many others might be trapped in violent situations while councils refuse to act.

Police Appeal for Information

The Met Police confirm the investigation is ongoing but no arrests have been made. They appeal for witnesses to call 101, quoting reference 6688/27MAR25, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
