Man Murdered in Early Morning Attack on Manchester’s Kingsway

Greater Manchester Police have launched a murder probe after a 30-year-old man was fatally attacked just before 1.40am on Tuesday, 23 January 2024. The violent incident happened on the A34 Kingsway at the junction with Parrs Wood Lane and Queensway.

Victim Dies Despite Emergency Efforts

Emergency services rushed to the scene after being alerted to a serious assault. Despite their efforts at the scene and hospital, the man later died from his injuries. His family have been informed and are currently being supported by specially trained officers.

Teen Arrested as Police Probe Murder Motive

Police arrested an 18-year-old on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm. The suspect reportedly fled the scene in a vehicle before being caught. Detective Inspector Alex Wilkinson said the motive remains unclear but believes this to be an isolated incident.

Major Road Closures Disrupt Kingsway Traffic

Significant road closures are in place along Kingsway in both directions, causing travel havoc for hours. Wilkinson urged the public to remain patient, saying:

“I appreciate the road closures are impactful on people’s travel, especially for work and school journeys. But these measures are essential for safe and thorough investigations.”

Police have ramped up their presence in the area to reassure locals, with officers stationed near the East Didsbury tram stop to assist travellers and answer questions.

Authorities are calling on anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage of the incident to come forward. Witnesses can contact police on 101 quoting log 166 of 23/01/2024, or provide information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
