Tragic South London Stabbing: Man Killed on Doorstep During 999 Call

A South London man was stabbed to death on his own doorstep while desperately calling 999, a court has heard.

Leon Anderson, 39, died after being attacked outside his home on Maple Close, Mitcham, at around 7.30pm on Sunday, April 28. His wife, Natasha, witnessed the horrifying incident unfold.

Murder Charge and Court Appearance

Kemuel Gambicky-Forbes, 24, of Deer Park Gardens, Mitcham, has been charged with murder and possession of a bladed article. Appearing at the Old Bailey on May 6, the defendant, wearing a grey prison tracksuit, was remanded in custody.

Prosecutor Paul Case revealed in court that the assault took place as Mr Anderson made a 999 emergency call.

“The incident happened on his front doorstep while he was on a 999 call,” Case told the court.

The weapon used remains missing, with police describing it as “a weapon of some significance.”

Judge Sarah Whitehouse KC said the killing appeared to be a “spontaneous outburst of violence with fatal consequences.” A plea hearing is scheduled for July 22, with a trial set for January 12, 2026.

Community in Shock

Local pastor El Safo, 50, spoke of the devastation the incident caused:

“It’s a very quiet area. I’ve lived here for more than 15 years and have never seen anything like this. It’s really unfortunate and has caused a lot of panic.”

Mr El Safo added that his son was horrified after seeing paramedics fighting to save Mr Anderson’s life.

Ongoing Police Investigation

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell, from Specialist Crime South, said:

“The victim’s loved ones are being supported by specially trained officers. They have our deepest sympathies following this terrible loss.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to call 101, quoting CAD 6812/28APR.
