At around 3.35pm, an Audi A4 travelling eastbound on the single carriageway section of the A303 at Chilmark collided head on with a second vehicle, a Volkswagen Caravelle, travelling in the other direction.
The driver of the Audi, a man in his 80s, was sadly declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a man in his 30s, suffered serious leg injuries and has been taken to hospital.
A passenger in the Volkswagen, a woman in her 20s, suffered minor injuries.
The road was closed overnight and has since reopened.
