Police officers have intercepted a driver with a revoked licence and an untaxed vehicle during a proactive patrol on the A45 near Ryton Upon Dunsmore.
The Vauxhall Astra was stopped after Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) flagged that it had not been taxed since September 2024. Further checks on the driver revealed he was driving on a revoked licence — a consequence of receiving 10 penalty points within the first two years of driving, after being convicted for being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle.
The Astra was immediately seized under police powers, and the driver was reported to court for multiple driving offences.
A police spokesperson said:
Driving without a valid licence and insurance is a serious offence. We will continue to take action to keep our roads safe. If you choose to drive illegally, expect your vehicle to be seized and to face prosecution.”
Authorities are reminding motorists that new drivers face strict rules under the New Drivers Act, where accumulating six or more points within two years can lead to automatic licence revocation.
