Explosion at Southgate Underground in London

Southgate Underground Station has been evacuated by the British Transport Police following a small explosion within the station A number of people have been treated by paramedics Police have revealed. BTP explosive and bomb detector sniffer dogs are also on scene and are now carrying out further checks for secondary devices part of te outside street has also been sealed off and under police guard. Police were called at 1903hrs on Tuesday, 19 June, to reports of an explosion and people running at Southgate underground station. Met officers attended the scene along with colleagues from British Transport Police (BTP), London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service. The scene has been examined by specialist officers. It appears at this stage that the cause of the explosion was a battery short circuit. The Met Police and BTP are working together to establish the full facts.
