Fire crews called to tackle Blaze at WestQuay Shopping Centre in Southampton

A number of fire crews from across Southampton have been called to the West Quay Shopping Centre in the city this afternoon following the outbreak of a fire within one of the retail units. Retained crews from Botley are currently on standby at Hightown providing fire cover whilst two appliances from station support crews from St Mary’s who have also been called to the multi million pound shopping  complex. It is understood that two crews have been to a retail unit within the food complex  after ash and sparks were scene in the ceiling area of the food eatery. A spokesman for Hampshire Fire said “Two crews were sent  just after 4pm  this afternoon (Tuesday) after reports of sparks and smoke being seen through the ceiling at Southampton’s shopping centre. An inspection was carried out but no further action was taken by attending crews who left just after 4.30pm.
