Man jailed over teenager bus sex attack

A man has been jailed for sexually assaulting a teenage girl on a bus. Lloyd Weekes, 57 of no fixed address, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment at Wood Green Crown Court on Thursday, 28 March after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl. The offence was committed on the morning of 26 February 2018 on a Route W3 bus travelling through Haringey. The girl was with a friend and the pair boarded the busy bus in Wood Green. After a short time on the bus, she felt someone touching her and turned around to see Weekes. She confronted him before leaving the bus and reporting the incident to police. The investigation was led by the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command. Weekes was positively identified by a Detective Constable who recognised him after a CCTV image of the suspect was circulated amongst officers. He was subsequently arrested and charged. He pleaded guilty to the offence on 8 February 2019. Weekes was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years, and a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order was made. The court heard that Weekes had previously committed similar offences on the London Underground network. PC Leanne Bridgeman said: “Weekes took advantage of the victim’s vulnerability in committing this appalling assault. “I would like to commend the victim in this case for her bravery in coming forward to report the incident to police and for giving evidence. “The Roads and Transport Policing Command are committed in working in Partnership with Transport for London in making the bus network system in London safer. “The Met will not tolerate anyone committing sexual offences on the bus and train network and are committed to catching offenders.” Shar
