Additionally, in response to a recent serious assault that occurred in the Daisy Dip area of Southampton, the police have implemented additional stop and search powers. These powers, granted under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, will cover the designated location indicated in the accompanying map and will remain in effect until 8 am on Friday, October 27.
Acting Inspector Mark Kingston commented on the situation, saying, “You can expect to see an increased police presence in the area as officers follow every line of enquiry available in relation to the assault. Teams will also be undertaking proactive patrols through the night and making use of Stop and Search powers.”
He further explained that Section 60 powers can be applied in areas where serious violence has occurred or is anticipated. These powers enable officers to conduct stop and search procedures within a specified location without the usual constraints of regular stop and search protocols.
Inspector Kingston reassured the community, stating, “We understand that this type of violence can cause particular concern to communities. Please be reassured that enquiries are being progressed as a priority, and we will have a number of officers in the area who are approachable if you have any concerns or any information about the incident that has occurred this evening.”
