Hero of the High Seas: Pat Dolby Snags Prestigious Merchant Navy Medal
A lifetime dedicated to maritime safety has earned Pat Dolby the coveted Merchant Navy Medal. The Havant man has spent over 45 years safeguarding ships and seafarers, playing a key role in the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA).
Guarding the Seas and Seafarers
Pat Dolby is the UK’s go-to expert on international ship inspection policy. His work focuses on Port State Control inspections, ensuring ships don’t sail unless they’re safe and seaworthy. “Pat’s interventions have stopped unsafe and unhealthy vessels from going to sea,” a source reveals. He’s particularly passionate about the welfare of seafarers, often stepping in when crew members are left stranded or unpaid.
Partnering with industry leaders and the International Transport Workers’ Federation, Pat fights to get stranded seamen home and secure their wages. His tireless efforts make a world of difference for workers facing poor onboard conditions.
