Fire Fridge Sparks Guildford Station Shutdown
Guildford railway station was forced to shut its doors for 90 minutes today after a fire broke out in a fridge inside one of the office cabins. The drama unfolded on Sunday, June 12, with the station reopening around 6 p.m.
20 Firefighters Race to Battleground
Emergency services scrambled as Surrey Fire and Rescue Service received the alert at about 3:50 p.m. Twenty firefighters swooped in to tackle the blaze. A spokesperson revealed the crew had to cut power to the third rail, halting all train services temporarily.
Platform Partially Closed But Services Resume
While a platform on the station’s east side remained cordoned off at 6 p.m., a local station employee confirmed the lines were back to normal. Fire crews, Network Rail, and British Transport Police worked swiftly together to minimise disruption.
Investigation Underway Into Cause
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine how the fridge caught fire. The combined effort of firefighters and transport officials ensured the station reopened quickly, easing the commuter chaos.
