Boris Johnson Unveils £36bn NHS and Social Care Cash Boost
Boris Johnson has promised a whopping £36 billion to fix the NHS backlog over the next three years. He called it the “biggest catch-up programme in NHS history.” Although admitting the new tax breaks a manifesto pledge, Johnson hit back: “The global pandemic was in no one’s manifesto.”
National Insurance Hike Sparks Controversy
From April 2022, both workers and employers will face a 1.25% hike in National Insurance contributions. Then, in 2023, it turns into a separate tax on earned income, visible on payslips. Dividends from company shares won’t escape either—they’ll see a 1.25% tax rise too.
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer slammed the plan as a “sticking plaster”.
