Paramedic Takes on Tough Movember Challenge to Fight Male Suicide
Kieran Hennah, a paramedic from Worcester, is teaming up with two pals to tackle a bold Movember challenge. They’re not just growing moustaches—they’re pounding the pavement, cycling, and rowing 84km each week. Why 84km? It represents the shocking number of men who take their own lives every week in the UK.
Kieran’s Personal Battle Fuels Passion
The 31-year-old from Swansea knows the cause all too well. At the end of 2017, he hit rock bottom with his mental health but didn’t realise it at the time.
“I’d lost interest in everything I used to enjoy and just wasn’t myself,” Kieran reveals. “Friends and family noticed and stepped in. The support from my service was great. In 2018, I left my role to focus on my mental wellbeing.”
By March this year, Kieran returned to the West Midlands Ambulance Service to help during the pandemic.
Raising Awareness and Hope
Alongside friends Ed Jones and Neil Navarra, Kieran aims to raise cash and awareness for Movember’s vital mission—to reduce male suicides by 25% by 2030.
“We can’t just sit back,” he says. “If we can get men to look after their mental health and be brave enough to ask for help, that’s a great start. I got through my struggles by accepting help, and I urge others to do the same. You really aren’t alone.”
