Hampshire Woman to Tackle Brutal Ultra Marathon for Police Charity
Jenny Stott from Hampshire is gearing up for a brutal ultra marathon on 16 October – alongside her husband Andy. They’re running to raise cash for Police Care UK, a charity supporting officers suffering physical or psychological harm.
Shock Diagnosis Sparks Fundraising Fight
Jenny opened up about her shocking 2019 diagnosis of Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD):
“In 2019 I was diagnosed with Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after experiencing a series of traumatic incidents. I knew I was unwell but the diagnosis still came as a massive shock.”
Her husband Andy was left clueless where to turn, but quickly found help through Jenny’s workplace support. With backing from her supervisors and Police Federation, Police Care UK stepped in to fund her vital treatment.
Long Road to Recovery Away from Family
Jenny endured two and a half tough months in a London hospital, separated from Andy and their two daughters. She said:
“It was extremely hard to be away from my family but I knew it had to be done if I ever stood a chance of surviving.”
Jenny underwent gruelling group therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and mindfulness sessions. Thanks to this support, she has made huge strides and returned to work.
Help Jenny and Andy Support Their Lifeline Charity
Jenny described CPTSD as a “drip, drip effect of trauma” that eventually causes the “bucket to spill over.” She credits Police Care UK’s funding with giving her family hope for a positive future:
“The support and funding that me and my family have received has been immense and we will be eternally grateful.”
The couple’s ultra marathon funds will help serving and retired officers, staff, volunteers, and their families get similar lifesaving support.
Jenny pleads for backing:
“Please can we ask you to dig deep and support Andy and I in raising as much funding as possible for what we can only describe as an amazing and supportive charity.”
