Another group set up camp in the nearby woods, with several protesters climbing trees and barricading themselves in a fortified area. Police kept a measured approach with those in the safe protest zone, which included families and children.
Despite tents being illegal in this area overnight, officers tolerated the breach after hearing community feedback. No arrests have been made in this space so far. Protest liaison officers have been on hand to explain police intentions and maintain peaceful engagement.

“We have been very aware of how our actions could be perceived, listening to community feedback in terms of trying to get the balance right in regard our approach to fulfil our legal obligation to support peaceful protest whilst also supporting the business from becoming a victim of crime again,” said Deputy Chief Constable David Sandall. “Our officers have and continue to work extremely hard as our policing operation remains ongoing and we continue to facilitate peaceful protest at the site while taking police action against anyone who commits a public offence.”
