Tragic Logan Mwangi Murder Trial Unfolds at Cardiff Crown Court
Body Found with 56 Injuries in Bridgend River
Last July, the body of Logan Mwangi, 14, was discovered in the River Ogmore at Sarn, Bridgend. The horrific findings revealed 56 injuries on the teenager. A chilling 101 call from Logan’s mother, Angharad Williamson, 30, surfaced where she claimed Logan had confessed that another teenager had hurt him.
Family Secrets and Shocking Confessions
Williamson, alongside John Cole, 40, and the unnamed teenager, all deny murder charges. During the January 2021 emergency call, Williamson begged police for help, stating, “We thought he’d fallen down the stairs” but admitted, “the youth was the one who pushed him.”
Six months earlier, she took Logan to hospital after hearing “a series of very loud bangs,” believing he’d fallen downstairs. Shockingly, she told police she “twisted” Logan’s arm to “pop it” back into place — a move she later admitted was likely wrong.
Dark Past of Teen Suspect Revealed
Witnesses who worked with the teenage defendant described a troubled childhood. A family support worker labelled him “aggressive” and said engaging with him was “the most difficult engagement session I’ve ever done with a child.”
The youth reportedly had violent outbursts at school—punching walls and lashing out for attention. Martial arts lessons were arranged to manage his behaviour. A martial arts centre manager revealed he had Muay Thai skills, including punches, kicks, and sparring abilities.
Teachers recalled him as verbally abusive and violent toward other children during Year 6.
Heartbreaking Statements from Family and Friends
Learning support officer Wendy John described Logan as a “happy, caring, loving, and intelligent child” before the Covid-19 pandemic. After returning to school, she noted his worsening stammer, weight loss, and dark circles under his eyes.
In a moving statement, Logan’s father Benjamin Mwangi described his devastation on hearing of Logan’s death. Living in Essex, he said, “Please don’t tell me this has anything to do with Logan,” before breaking down outside the courtroom. The couple’s relationship had broken down, and he lost contact with Logan after Williamson became involved with Cole. The last time he spoke to Logan was January 2020.
Denials and Charges Against Trio Continue
Williamson, Cole, and the teenager all face murder charges. They’re also accused of perverting the course of justice by moving Logan’s body, removing clothing, washing blood-stained bedding, and filing a false missing person report.
While Williamson and the teenager deny these allegations, Cole has admitted to perverting the course of justice. The trial is ongoing.
