Sheppey Crossing Shut Both Ways for Emergency Repairs
The A249 Sheppey Crossing in Kent is closed in both directions due to urgent bridge repairs. This has sparked major delays and disruption for drivers in the area.
Northbound Diversion Route
Drivers heading northbound should follow the hollow diamond signs. Here’s the diversion:
- Exit the A249 at Ridham Dock and join Sheppey Way towards Sheerness.
- Continue on Sheppey Way to the roundabout with the B2231.
- Take the southbound exit onto Lower Road to the A249 roundabout.
- From there, continue on the A249 northbound as usual.
Southbound Diversion Route
Southbound travellers must follow the hollow triangle signs. Follow these steps:
- Exit the A249 at Cowstead Corner and take the first exit at the roundabout.
- At the next roundabout, take the third exit onto Sheppey Way southbound.
- Cross over Kingsferry Bridge heading south.
- At the next roundabout, take the first exit to rejoin the A249 southbound.
Plan Ahead, Expect Delays
National Highways is managing the repair works and advises motorists to plan journeys carefully. Allow extra time for delays while the emergency bridge repairs are completed.
