Fatal Crash Shuts M27 and A31 for Hours

A deadly collision has slammed the A31 westbound towards Poulner, forcing the closure of Junctions 1 and 2 on the M27 westbound. Officers from Hampshire Roads Policing are now investigating the crash, which has brought traffic to a standstill.

Major Road Closures and Diversions in Place

The road will remain shut well into the early hours, with drivers urged to steer clear of the area. Highways England confirmed that the A31 is closed westbound between M27 Junction 2 and the A338 (Junction 1) due to the fatal incident.

Official Diversion Route:

  • Exit M27 at Junction 2 and take the A326 southbound.
  • At Hounsdown, switch to the A35 westbound towards Junction 1.
  • At Iford, join the A3060 northbound.
  • Turn right onto the A338 northbound to rejoin the A31 at St Ives.

Delays Expected – Plan Ahead

Motorists using this stretch are warned to expect long delays and to consider alternative routes if possible. “Allow plenty of extra time for your journey,” advises Highways England. Updates will follow as the investigation unfolds.
