Fire Rips Through Two-Room Flat in Five-Storey Block – No Injuries
Quick Evacuation Saves Lives
A fire broke out in a small section of a two-room flat in a five-storey residential building. Luckily, 42 residents had already evacuated before firefighters arrived. Thankfully, no one was hurt in the blaze.
Candle Sparks Flames
The London Fire Brigade suspects the fire was accidentally started by a candle. A spokesperson warned, “Candles, incense sticks, and oil burners are one of the most common causes of fire.” They stressed the importance of never leaving candles unattended and keeping them well away from anything flammable.
“Our best advice is to ditch traditional candles for LED flameless ones,” the spokesperson added. “But if you do use real candles, follow our safety tips closely.”
Fire Brigade Response
The alarm was raised at 11:05pm, and firefighters had the fire under control by 11:49pm. Four fire engines and 25 firefighters from croydon/" title="Croydon" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Croydon, Woodside, Norbury, and Beckenham rushed to the scene to extinguish the flames.
