Discarded Mattress Sparks Garage Blaze in Bromley
London Fire Brigade is probing a garage fire in Bromley caused by a discarded mattress set alight. The fire broke out at 1:50am on Waters Road on Tuesday, July 4.
Fire Causes Major Damage but No Injuries
The blaze seriously damaged half of a single-story garage and a nearby garden fence. Thankfully, no one was hurt. Fire crews from Bromley Station responded fast after 11 emergency calls flooded in to the Brigade’s 999 Control Officers.
Firefighters Control Blaze Within 30 Minutes
Brave firefighters had the fire under control by 2:20am, quickly limiting the destruction. Bromley Fire Brigade confirmed the fire started from a mattress that had been deliberately ignited.
“The garage and fence suffered significant damage, but no injuries were reported,” a spokesperson said. “Thanks to prompt calls from locals, crews controlled the fire swiftly.”
Council Urged to Tackle Discarded Waste
The London Fire Brigade is urging residents to report dumped rubbish to Bromley Council to help prevent similar fires. They are now working with partners to investigate how and why the mattress was set on fire.
Authorities say pinpointing the cause is vital for stopping future incidents and protecting the community.
