Wightlink Revamps Ryde Pier Parking: New Rules and Fines Ahead!
Heads up, Ryde Pier drivers! From Tuesday 26th June, Wightlink is shaking up its car parking game. New ticket machines, fresh payment options, and a stricter 20-minute free parking limit mean many could soon find parking fines landing on their doormats.
Say Goodbye to Old Parking Rules
The old system, where parking attendants roamed issuing fines, is out. Now, if you’re driving onto the pier, you only get a 20-minute free stop to drop off or pick up—down from a generous hour. Stay longer without paying and you risk a fine.
Four shiny new ticket machines will replace the three ageing ones. Each will accept cash and card payments. Want to park for under 24 hours? Forget the Wightlink ticket office—staff won’t issue tickets for short stays anymore, since there are new ways to pay.
Go Cashless With RingGo App
Fancy going fully digital? You can now register with RingGo and pay for up to three days of parking right from your phone. It’s easy, cash-free, and perfect for islanders hopping on the FastCats.
Best news? Parking charges stay the same for the rest of 2018. But watch out for 2019 prices — expectations are high.
Clive Tilley, Wightlink Business Development Director, said: “We are responding to customer feedback by giving people travelling on the FastCats a choice of payment methods, whether they are crossing the Solent for a few hours or a day. Islanders who want the most reliable cross-Solent service will appreciate using the cashless RingGo system.”
ANPR Tech and Bike Perks
New Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras will monitor vehicles, speeding up parking management on the pier. Motorcycles and bicycles still park for free.
Fishbourne Parking Unchanged… For Now
Over at Fishbourne, parking stays the same for now. But don’t get too comfy—Wightlink plans to add ANPR cameras and updated ticket machines soon, tightening the screws on motorists.
Drivers, mark 26th June on your calendars. New rules, new fines, and new ways to pay are coming to Ryde Pier—and you won’t want to get caught out!
