Hovertravel Unveils Sleek New ‘Solent Flyer’ After Successful Trials
Hovertravel has pulled back the curtain on its brand-new hovercraft, the ‘Solent Flyer’, following triumphant trials last week. This is part of a bold move to replace its ageing fleet with two state-of-the-art vessels this summer.
Future-Ready Hovercraft Set to Boost Service
Neil Chapman, Hovertravel’s managing director, revealed the urgent need to upgrade: “Our current crafts are due for replacement or extensive refurbishment. Planning ahead was essential.”
The new duo harnesses cutting-edge advances in engine tech and design. Passengers can expect quicker, smoother boarding, a quieter ride thanks to large, slow-turning propellers, and panoramic windows offering unbeatable views.
Customer Experience Takes Centre Stage
Hovertravel teamed up with design experts CCD Design and Ergonomics to study passenger behaviour — including how people board and choose their seats. The insights led to practical innovations like adding both ramps and steps with handrails for easier access.
“Our business is focused on improving the customer experience,” said Chapman. “CCD’s input was invaluable in shaping our new crafts.”
Complete Makeover Beyond the Boats
The upgrade isn’t just about the hovercraft. A fresh new uniform for staff and revamped terminal interiors mark a complete transformation. Hovertravel aims to be a modern, customer-centric firm that serves locals and draws visitors from across the globe.
