Gatwick Boosts Flights to China with Air China and China Southern
London Gatwick is ramping up its China connections this summer. Thanks to new routes by Air China and China Southern, passengers from London and the South East can now enjoy 10 extra weekly flights to China.
Daily Flights to Beijing and New Service to Guangzhou
From June 1, Air China will fly daily to Beijing Capital Airport using A330-300 aircraft. Then, on June 20, China Southern will launch a thrice-weekly service to Guangzhou with Boeing 787-8s, giving travellers more options than ever.
More Flights Than Ever to Asia from Gatwick
These new services push Gatwick’s weekly flights to China up to 26. Existing flights link to Shanghai and Zhengzhou, operated by China Eastern and Air China, and China Southern respectively. Alongside other Asian routes from airlines like Air India, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, and Azerbaijan Airlines, Gatwick will offer a total of 85 weekly flights to Asia this summer.
Big Wins for UK Business and Tourism
These expanded routes will boost both leisure and business travel, supporting the economy. UK exports to China jumped 11.9% in 2023, hitting £37.5 billion. Chinese tourists also make a big impact, spending an average of £1,937 each visit and £1.71 billion in total in 2019, according to Visit Britain.
Stephanie Wear, VP of Aviation Development at Gatwick, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome new China services. These flights will open up fresh tourism and trade opportunities for London and the South East. We thank Air China and China Southern for their commitment and look forward to growing our long-haul routes, especially to Asia.”
