Maritime Chief Bids Farewell After Four Landmark Years
Leading the Charge in Maritime Safety
After four whirlwind years at the helm of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), its leader is stepping down. It’s been a privilege to drive groundbreaking progress in protecting seafarers, saving lives at sea, and pushing forward the fight against climate change.
Championing Innovation and Global Recognition
Under this leadership, the MCA has transformed. From adopting cutting-edge tech to speed up rescue missions to championing cleaner, greener ships, the agency has set new standards. Major milestones included the 200th anniversary of Her Majesty’s Coastguard, stellar safety records in ship surveys, and a glowing International Maritime Organization audit. The agency also made waves fighting for seafarers’ rights worldwide.
Stepping Down But Not Gone Yet
Now, it’s time to hand over the reins to a skilled Executive Team, leaving behind a stronger, smarter MCA. “Saying goodbye is tough because I’ve loved every minute,” the outgoing chief admitted. While officially retiring, they call it a “relaunch” — a chance to focus more on family and new challenges closer to home.
Leaving a Legacy and Bright Future
Committed to a smooth handover, the leader will stay on until October, ensuring the MCA continues its trailblazing work. “This is an extraordinary organisation with some of the best talent I’ve ever worked with,” they said. The MCA has come a long way since 2018, and the future looks even brighter.
