Amazon Phone Scam Hits Hampshire and Isle of Wight – Don’t Get Caught!

Residents across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are being targeted by a cunning phone scam. Fraudsters posing as Amazon are ringing up, trying to steal money and personal info. Amazon’s warning is loud and clear:

“If you get a call claiming to be from us, it’s OK to hang up.”

How the Scam Works – Don’t Fall for These Tricks

  • Scammers demand payments outside Amazon’s website — through bank transfers, credit card details, or gift cards.
  • They push you to install remote access apps or share one-time passwords (OTPs) sent to your phone.
  • They claim they need your Amazon login or bank info to “unlock” your account.
  • Fake emergencies, like expiring subscriptions or unauthorised purchases, force you to act fast — but it’s all a trick.

Heads up: Amazon will NEVER ask for OTP codes or banking details over the phone. Hang up if you receive such a call. Contact Amazon only via their official app or website.

Been Targeted? Here’s What To Do Next

  • Check your Amazon orders online for any suspicious activity.
  • Forward phishing emails to your email provider or [email protected].
  • Send scam texts or suspicious phone numbers to 7726 or your mobile provider.
  • If scammed, get free, confidential help from the Victim Care Hub on 0808 178 1641.
  • Report crimes anonymously to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
  • Report fraud to Action Fraud at 0300 123 2040.
