Amazon Phone Scam Hits Hampshire and Isle of Wight – Don’t Get Caught!
Residents across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are being targeted by a cunning phone scam. Fraudsters posing as Amazon are ringing up, trying to steal money and personal info. Amazon’s warning is loud and clear:
“If you get a call claiming to be from us, it’s OK to hang up.”
How the Scam Works – Don’t Fall for These Tricks
- Scammers demand payments outside Amazon’s website — through bank transfers, credit card details, or gift cards.
- They push you to install remote access apps or share one-time passwords (OTPs) sent to your phone.
- They claim they need your Amazon login or bank info to “unlock” your account.
- Fake emergencies, like expiring subscriptions or unauthorised purchases, force you to act fast — but it’s all a trick.
Heads up: Amazon will NEVER ask for OTP codes or banking details over the phone. Hang up if you receive such a call. Contact Amazon only via their official app or website.
