Brighton & Hove’s E-Bike Hire Scheme Charges Back

Brighton & Hove is gearing up to relaunch its cycle hire scheme with a fresh fleet of Beryl BTN e-bikes hitting the streets on March 31. The reboot kicks off with around 75 e-bikes spread across 19 hubs along the seafront and routes linking Brighton and Hove stations.

Big Boost: Fleet Set to Nearly Double

This is just the start. The scheme will soon swell to 125 e-bikes in phase one, then expand further to a whopping 780 bikes—468 e-bikes and 312 pedal-only cycles—which is nearly 200 more than before. The council plans to roll out 15 new hubs in the coming months, aiming for city-wide coverage.

The Beryl app is already available for download, so locals can gear up early. Councillor Jamie Lloyd, part of the Environment, Transport and Sustainability committee, said:

“This new look scheme will take cycle hire in the city to a new level with e-bikes and new bays. Cycling is a great way to get around Brighton & Hove, but not everyone has the space to store their own bike. The e-bikes will also make it easier to navigate some of the city’s steeper roads.”

Green, Fun, and Affordable Transport

Phil Ellis, CEO and co-founder of Beryl, added:

“We’re truly excited to be working in partnership with Brighton & Hove City Council and are really excited to be launching our service in one of the country’s most progressive and vibrant cities. Our vehicles are not only good for the environment, they’re also fun, easy to use and cost-effective, removing the need for vehicle ownership expenses such as fuel, tax, MOT, storage and maintenance.”

The revamped scheme promises a convenient, eco-friendly, and wallet-friendly way for residents and visitors to zip around Brighton and Hove. Get ready to jump back on two wheels!
