Volvo Crashes Through Fence in Sheerness – Stops Inches from Live Railway Line
A silver Volvo narrowly avoided disaster after smashing through a metal fence and stopping just feet from a live electric railway line in Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey. The shocking smash happened around 1:30pm near the main line serving Sheerness.
Emergency Services Rush to Scene
British Transport Police were called to Brielle Way at 1:45pm following reports of the car crashing through the fence beside the railway. Officers were joined by Kent Fire and Rescue and paramedics who checked the driver at the scene.
Spokesman said: “The vehicle was recovered from the side of the tracks. The driver was checked over by paramedics.”
Network Rail engineers quickly moved in to inspect the railway line for any damage. Thankfully, Southeastern confirmed that rail services have not been disrupted.
Traffic Chaos Expected on Key Route
Police are managing traffic on Brielle Way – the main road for vehicles and car carriers heading to Sheerness Docks. Drivers are warned to expect delays and consider alternate routes as recovery efforts for the crashed Volvo are set to begin around 6pm.
Network Rail will remain on-site to ensure the line’s safety and prevent any lasting impact from the incident.
