Road rage rampage in Bournemouth: Taxi driver terrorised by Audi thugs
Police hunting brazen attackers after harrowing night-time showdown on Christchurch roads.
Taxi driver chased and attacked by Audi gang
The nightmare began just after 1.30am on Wednesday 6 March 2019 at Somerford roundabout in Christchurch. A taxi driver in a black Seat Toledo, heading home after his Bournemouth shift, crossed the roundabout towards Highcliffe.
A silver Audi TT, cruising in the left lane, also went straight across. The taxi driver reckoned the Audi’s driver thought he’d been cut up and started tailgating aggressively, repeatedly trying to overtake.
When the Audi pulled alongside, two young men inside gestured for the taxi driver to pull over. He kept going into Highcliffe but stopped at traffic lights, where the Audi pulled ahead and its passenger smashed on the taxi’s window.
Chased from Highcliffe to Bournemouth
Fearing for his safety, the taxi driver sped off back towards Bournemouth to avoid revealing his home. The Audi followed closely through Walkford, Christchurch, and Boscombe into Bournemouth town centre.
Near the Hilton Hotel on Exeter Road, the taxi stopped again at lights. The Audi passenger hopped onto the taxi’s bonnet as the vehicle moved a short distance before stopping again.
Brutal attack caught on dashcam
The passenger climbed back into the Audi, but when the taxi tried to move away, the Audi blocked its path. Both men jumped out, punched the doors and windows, and smashed the windscreen.
The taxi driver stayed inside and called police while the attackers sped off.
“This must have been a very frightening ordeal for the victim,” said PCSI Martin Young of Dorset Police. “We are carrying out a full investigation and releasing dashcam images of the Audi passenger to help identify them.”
Police urge public to come forward
Officers appeal to anyone who was driving in the area early on 6 March and has dashcam footage to check it for clues.
