Nearly 600,000 Inhalers Recalled Over Faulty Delivery

GlaxoSmithKline has issued a nationwide recall of almost 600,000 inhalers due to a “defective delivery system.” The problem? A significant number of the inhalers show “out of specification results for leak rate,” meaning they could leak and fail to deliver the correct dose.

Check Your Child’s Ventolin Now

The affected inhalers are Ventolin HFA (albuterol sulfate) Inhalation Aerosol, 90 mcg per actuation, 200 metered inhalations, prescription-only. This recall is classified as Class II — the defect might cause temporary health issues or pose a slight risk but isn’t expected to cause serious harm.

How to Tell if Your Inhaler Is on the List

Parents, check your child’s inhaler for these lot numbers and expiration dates:

  • Lot number 6ZP9848 – expires March 2018
  • Lot number 6ZP0003 – expires April 2018
  • Lot number 6ZP9944 – expires April 2018

If your inhaler matches any of these, stop using it and contact your pharmacist or doctor for a replacement immediately.
