MP Burns Cleared and Set for Tory Comeback
Mr Burns, the Bournemouth West MP, was axed as trade minister last October over claims he touched a man’s thigh at a hotel bar during the Conservative Party conference. He has always denied the allegations. Now the Tories have given him a clean bill of health after a thorough probe.
Party Spokesperson Confirms: No Case to Answer
A Conservative Party spokesperson said they reviewed “all of the evidence available” and found “no basis to investigate further.” They added, “The matter is now closed, and Mr Burns’ membership will be reinstated as soon as possible.”
Burns Hits Back: ‘It Was a Stitch-Up’
The former minister of state for Northern Ireland called the ordeal a “living nightmare.” He claims his sacking was a political hit linked to backing International Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch, who challenged then-PM Liz Truss for Tory leadership.
“It felt and smelled like a stitch-up, and that’s exactly what it was,” Burns said. “I knew I was innocent and that the truth would come out, and it did.”
Burns insists he was unfairly “thrown to the wolves,” but now he’s gearing up for a political comeback.
