Smoke Alarm Saves Family Home in Cowes Blaze
A blazing fire was stopped in its tracks thanks to a working smoke alarm in a Cowes family home. Just before 8pm on Tuesday, two fire crews from Newport and Cowes rushed to the scene after the alarm alerted the family.
Quick Escape Before Firefighters Arrived
The family had already fled the house when fire crews arrived. Firefighters contained the fire to the utility room, which was sparked by a fault in the refrigerator.
Fire Service Urges Smoke Alarm Checks
An Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said: “We received a call at 7.50pm this evening. The owner had escaped by the time we got here. The fire was contained to the utility room after a fridge fault. Two crews attended.”
She added: “The smoke alarm gave this family valuable time to escape. Without it, the fire could have caused far worse damage or injury.”
Safety Tip: Everyone should have smoke alarms fitted and test them weekly. A quick 10-second check could save your property — or your life.
