Asda Hero Delivers Customer to Hospital After Chest Pain Scare
Asda security guard Jacob Roberts has been hailed a lifesaver after rushing a customer in distress to hospital when an ambulance delay left them stranded. David Williamson, 59, praised Jacob for driving him to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham after suffering severe chest pains in the Barnes Hill store.
Security Guard’s Quick Thinking Saves Life
David, who has a history of cardiac arrest and heart attacks, collapsed in the store around 9.20pm while trying to buy aspirin. Jacob, 41, found him slumped in agony and called 999. When told the ambulance might take too long, Jacob acted fast.
“I felt I had to act immediately,” said Jacob. “One colleague got David a wheelchair while I drove him straight to A&E. I kept talking to him to keep him awake and handed him over to the medical staff as soon as we arrived. I’m just glad he’s OK.”
Customer Grateful for Lifesaving Action
David, who was in Birmingham organising a charity dinner dance for NHS Together, spoke to BirminghamLive about the ordeal and praised Jacob’s bravery.
“I could have died if it wasn’t for Jacob and the Asda Barnes Hill staff,” said David. “Jacob was calm and reassuring throughout. When I got severe chest pains after visiting friends nearby, I went into Asda to grab aspirin but quickly got worse and collapsed.
“Ambulance wait times were long, so the staff pushed me into a wheelchair and Jacob drove me to hospital himself. The doctors took me straight in and moved me to the resuscitation unit. I can’t thank them enough.”
Asda Manager Praises ‘True Hero’
Store manager Phil Marsh has nominated Jacob for an Asda Service Superstar award in recognition of his quick thinking and courage.
“We’re incredibly proud of Jacob,” said Phil. “His quick action and bravery ensured this customer got emergency care straight away. He truly went the extra mile.”
Jacob’s lifesaving actions have struck a chord on social media, with the store’s Facebook post about the incident garnering over 2,000 reactions and comments praising the security guard’s heroic deeds.
