Dart Charge Website Chaos: Users Locked Out and Payments Fail
Frustrated drivers hitting the Dartford Crossing have been left fuming after the Dart Charge website went haywire. Many faced card validation problems and the dreaded “blue circle of death” while trying to pay tolls.
National Highways Admits ‘Unforeseen Issues’
National Highways, the government body managing England’s major roads, has finally spoken out. They confirmed the payment system was hit by “unforeseen issues” and apologised for the chaos. The company promised a quick fix to get the Dart Charge site back on track.
Grace Period Offered for Unpaid Crossings
- Payments for crossings from August 16 onwards should soon show up on accounts.
- Auto-payments will be processed as the system catches up.
- For anyone who crossed between July 27 and August 14 but hasn’t paid, there’s a 14-day grace period.
- This means drivers can pay the usual Road User Crossing fee without penalty during this time.
National Highways Urges Users to Re-Validate Cards
A spokesperson said: “We regret the inconvenience and are working hard to fix the issues. Please re-validate your payment details online to ensure smooth travels.”
Those with unpaid crossings in the late July to mid-August window will get a letter with details attached to any Penalty Charge Notice sent out, aiming for a fair resolution.
National Highways vows to fully restore the site’s payment process, putting drivers first and smoothing out this bumpy patch at one of England’s busiest crossings.
