Demi’s Cancer Battle Sparks Surge in Life-Saving Checks
Since Demi went public with her thyroid cancer fight last year, Queen Alexandra (QA) Hospital has seen a huge spike in head and neck cancer referrals. A whopping 491 people have been sent for diagnostic tests – that’s 100 more than the previous year.
Demi Nominates Surgeon for Top Doctor Award
The reality TV star has now thrown her support behind her PHU surgeon, Costa Repanos, nominating him for Best Doctor at the national Who Cares Wins health awards. These awards, organised by The Sun and NHS Charities Together, celebrate NHS heroes making a real difference.
“I’m thrilled to see an increase in the number of people getting tested for head and neck cancers since I’ve openly shared my personal story,” said Demi. “It really highlights the impact of social media and how important it is to talk. Although it was a terrible experience, I’m grateful to have helped people and will continue to encourage people, especially young people, to get checked and potentially save lives!”
Surgeon Praises Demi’s Courage
Consultant Costa Repanos echoed the sentiment, recognising the huge impact medical teams have on patients. “It’s really humbling to realise, especially for our patients, the profound, life-changing effect that we have on our patients’ lives,” he said. “Demi is an incredibly brave, smart, and determined young lady, and it’s been a pleasure to be involved in her care.”
