Derbyshire Fire’s Helen Crampton Bags MBE for Outstanding Public Safety Work
Helen Crampton, Head of Safety and Risk Management at Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service (DFRS), has scooped an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for her exceptional services to public safety. A dedicated professional, Helen has been safeguarding fire crews and the community for 25 years.
Safety Hero Through Thick and Thin
Helen played a critical role during the Covid pandemic, leading risk assessments that protected fire service staff across five East Midlands counties. Her unwavering commitment to health and safety earned Derbyshire Fire & Rescue an “Outstanding” safety culture rating by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabularies and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) in 2019.
Beyond the Fire Service: A Community Champion
- Volunteers with UK Rescue Organisation (UKRO)
- Serves on Scouts Association’s National Safety Committee, safeguarding thousands of children and caregivers
- Cub leader and County Safety Advisor for Derbyshire Scouts
- Conducts safety risk assessments for St Paul’s Church in Hasland

The nomination surprised me – I never expected recognition for doing something I love. I want to thank everyone I’ve worked with over the years for helping improve safety locally and nationally.”
