Isle of Wight Launches Discounted Ferry Travel for Low-Income Families
A brand-new scheme slashes ferry fares for low-income families and residents on the Isle of Wight. This major deal, created by the Isle of Wight Council working with ferry giants Wightlink, Red Funnel, and Hovertravel, aims to ease the cost of crossing the Solent.
Big Savings for Islanders on Work, Health & More
The discount targets foot passengers, cars, and motorbikes, with set prices from each ferry operator. Anyone receiving housing benefit or local council tax support can benefit, making essential journeys to the mainland for work, health, and other needs much cheaper.
Council and Ferry Chiefs Back the Move
“It’s absolutely vital residents can travel to the mainland when they need to. We welcome these steps by Wightlink, Red Funnel, and Hovertravel,” said Council leader Dave Stewart.
He added: “Our Transport Infrastructure Board has worked hard to support Islanders, and we’re glad this initiative is now a reality. It also backs our MP Bob Seely’s efforts to tackle unique cross-Solent travel challenges.”
Wightlink CEO Keith Greenfield said: “We want low-income families to have every chance to visit the mainland for work or leisure. We’re pleased to launch this scheme with the council.”
Red Funnel CEO Fran Collins chimed in: “Fixed price fares will make mainland trips easier and cheaper for eligible Islanders.”
Hovertravel MD Neil Chapman said: “We’re passionate about helping our local communities. This fixed price discount is a positive step for local households struggling with travel costs.”
