A lone driver was rushed to hospital after a dramatic single-car crash in Croydon in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, December 28. The collision sparked road closures and caused heavy traffic delays throughout the area.
Crash Details and Emergency Response
Police were called to Wellesley Road at around 2 a.m. following reports of the crash. The Met Police and London Ambulance Service swiftly attended the scene. Paramedics arrived within five minutes and treated the driver for a suspected spinal injury before rushing him to a major trauma centre.
We were called at 2.02am this morning (28 December) to reports of a road traffic collision in Wellesley Road, Croydon,” confirmed a London Ambulance Service spokesperson.
No Other Vehicles or Arrests, Investigation Ongoing
The Met Police confirmed that no other vehicles were involved. The identity of the driver, a man, has not been released. There have been no arrests, and officers remain on the scene investigating the cause of the smash.
“At this time, it is believed that no other vehicles were involved. While the scene was being dealt with, road closures were put in place. There have been no arrests, and the investigation into the circumstances is ongoing,” a Met Police spokesperson said.
Traffic delays are expected as emergency teams continue their work on Wellesley Road.
