Night Owls Beware: The M25 anticlockwise is closing every night for ten days, starting Wednesday, October 8. Between Junction 5 (Chevening Interchange) and Junction 4 (Orpington and Bromley), the motorway will be shut from 10pm to 5:30am, except Fridays, when closures run 11pm to 6am.
This major disruption is due to essential repairs on the Shacklands Road bridge in Shoreham, including replacing a key expansion joint.
Detours to Dodge the M25 Chaos
- From Junction 5 anticlockwise? Divert east on the M26 to Junction 2a (Wrotham Heath).
- Then take the A20 London Road northbound.
- Jump onto the M20 westbound at Junction 2 and rejoin the M25 at Junction 3.
Northbound A21 drivers aren’t off the hook either. You’ll be routed clockwise on the M25 to Junction 6 (Godstone Interchange), then follow the anticlockwise diversion.
What Every Motorist Needs to Know
- The M25 clockwise lanes stay open — keep an eye on your direction!
- No weekend closures planned unless emergency work pops up; some extra overnight work may take place Oct 18–22.
- Nights around Croydon, Godstone, and Bromley will see heavier traffic — brace for delays.
- Plan your journey, check live updates, and factor in extra travel time.
National Highways warns drivers: “Stay alert, avoid getting caught in diversions, and drive safely.”
