Hazmat Alert at North Middlesex Hospital After Suspicious Substance Found

Emergency crews were scrambled to North Middlesex Hospital in North London just before 5am on Sunday, January 3, after a mysterious substance was discovered in the staff car park.

Hospital Car Park Locked Down

Police and the London Fire Brigade rushed to the Stirling Way site after the unknown material was spotted. The area has been sealed off while experts carry out investigations and testing.

Level Two Hazmat Incident Declared

The incident has been classed as a Level Two hazmat event. This means there’s been either a release or a suspected release of potentially toxic solid, liquid, or gas in a public space. Firefighters are tackling the scene decked out in specialist gas-tight suits.

Specialist Units Called In

The Incident Commander has requested the DIM unit, a specialist squad skilled in detecting and identifying chemical, biological, and radiological hazards. They’re also monitoring contamination levels and keeping safety zones secure.

Officials stress the hospital’s running as normal. No staff or patients are believed to be hurt during the scare. Police are keeping the public well away from the locked-down zone for now.
