Family Hurt After 11,000-Volt Power Cable Crashes Onto Busy A3
A family had a lucky escape after their car smashed into live 11,000-volt power cables that tumbled onto the A3 northbound near Bramshott Chase. The terrifying incident happened on Saturday evening during stormy conditions.
Car Hits Live Power Cable, Chaos Ensues
Storm-force winds tore down the high-voltage cables, sending them crashing across the busy trunk road. One vehicle hit the live cables, while a second car, travelling close behind, slammed into it. The impact flipped the second car onto its roof, rolling it down a nearby gully.
Family Injured, Petrol Tanker Barely Misses Disaster
The driver of the overturned car miraculously escaped without serious injuries. However, a young child in the same vehicle was rushed to hospital with a broken arm and other injuries.
Adding to the danger, a fully laden petrol tanker was just four car lengths behind, narrowly avoiding a catastrophic accident.
Chaos on the Roads and Power Cuts
The crash shut both sides of the A3, causing massive three-mile tailbacks as emergency teams from Surrey Fire and Rescue rushed to the scene. Scottish and Southern Electric specialists were called in to secure the live cables.
Local homes remain without power following the incident, adding to the disruption in the Bramshott Chase area.
