Fire Crews Rush to Chemical Leak in Southampton
Firefighters from six stations scrambled to a chemical incident at Maritime, Test Lane, Southampton, this morning. The alarm was raised just after 11:30am, triggering a major response with six fire engines and specialist vehicles on site.
Hazardous Material Incident Sparks Rapid Response
A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We received a call just after 11:30am and immediately dispatched resources. We are working closely with partners to identify the situation.” Despite the urgency, they stressed there was no danger to public health.
Large Area Cordoned Off, Experts On Standby
Fire crews have cordoned off a large area around the scene. A specialist Decontamination in Materials (DIM) unit was put on standby, ready to assist if needed.
John Dyer, tactical advisor at Southampton Central Ambulance Service, confirmed: “There’s a small leak of an organic solvent chemical. It’s very hazardous but the leak is tiny and low in concentration. Hampshire Fire & Rescue have assessed the incident; there are no casualties and no threat to the public. They are now handing the site back to the owners.”
Teams from Across Hampshire Join the Effort
- Fire crews from Redbridge, St Mary’s, Totton 1, Totton, and Cosham were on the scene.
- Paramedics from the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) were also present.
- A specialist DIM unit from Winchester provided support.
Thanks to quick and coordinated action, the potentially dangerous leak was contained without injury or wider risk.
