Chemical Scare at Southampton’s Maritime Site!
Fire crews from SIX stations rushed to Maritime in Test Lane, Southampton, after a hazardous material alert this morning. The emergency call came in just after 11:30am, prompting a swift response with six fire engines and specialist vehicles scrambling to the scene.
Massive Emergency Response Underway
A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed the call and said teams are working closely with partners to identify the exact risk. “There is no danger to public health,” they assured.
The area around the site has been cordoned off as a precaution, with a specialist Decontamination and Incident Management (DIM) unit put on standby. John Dyer, tactical advisor from Southampton Central Ambulance Service, revealed, “There’s a small leak of chemical.”
No Public Danger But Hazardous Substance
Hampshire Fire and Rescue assessed the scene and confirmed there are no casualties and no threat to the public. They are now in the process of handing the site back to the owners.
“It’s an organic solvent. It’s very hazardous, but it’s a very small leak and low concentration,” John Dyer explained.
