Fire Breaks Out at Southwark Shops and Hotel

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters rushed to a blaze at shops and a hotel on Great Dover Street, Southwark.

Ground Floor Annex Damaged

The fire damaged part of a room in a ground floor annex. Crews also checked the building’s internal extraction system but found no other issues.

Quick Evacuation and Fast Response

  • About 40 people safely evacuated an adjoining building before fire crews arrived.
  • The London Fire Brigade was called at 10:48am and had the blaze under control by 12:43pm.
  • Firefighters from Dowgate, Old Kent Road, and Dockhead stations tackled the fire.
