Fire crews from Shanklin, Ryde, Ventnor, and Newport raced to a major fire in Shanklin today. The drama unfolded on Wilton Park Road, where a number of outhouses caught fire and the blaze quickly spread to nearby trees.

Wilton Park Road is now closed, causing disruption for all drivers. Bus services are hit too, with Route 3 running a revised timetable. The buses are diverting between Arthur’s Hill, Atherley Road, and Shanklin Rail Station in both directions.

Thick black smoke can be seen billowing for miles around, alerting local residents. Reports confirm two sheds and several trees are ablaze along Wilton Park Road. Fire crews are currently working to contain the blaze.
