Just after 4pm on Monday, firefighters were called to the scene on Victoria Park Square when a private contractor’s rubbish lorry caught fire moments after collecting waste from the station.

Wearing breathing apparatus, crews tackled the blaze with two hose reels, working quickly to prevent the fire from spreading.

The swift response helped bring the fire under control with no reports of injuries.
