Gas Cylinder Blaze Sparks Major Fire Alert at Hackbridge Station
Firefighters were scrambled in the early hours of Tuesday to tackle a fierce blaze at Hackbridge Station in south London. The fire broke out in a metal-framed unit, believed to be a vehicle repair workshop, where dozens of gas cylinders were stored – sparking a high-risk situation.
Massive Fire Response Mobilised
London Fire Brigade dispatched twelve fire engines and a command unit shortly after 2am to deal with the well-developed inferno. Crews from Wallington and across London raced to the scene to battle the flames and prevent explosions.
A spokesman confirmed: “Sixty gas cylinders have been removed and are being cooled down as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.”
Hackbridge Station Shut Down, Roads Blocked
Hackbridge Station remains closed while fire crews continue fighting the fire. British Transport Police have sealed off the station car park and urged the public to steer clear of the area.
London Road is shut both ways. Drivers are advised to find alternative routes to avoid delays.
Firefighter Injured on Scene
In a dramatic twist, an experienced firefighter sustaining a shoulder injury has been taken to hospital. Reports say he likely did not dislocate his shoulder during the incident.
Emergency teams continue to work through the day. The fire’s cause remains unknown, with updates expected.
