Fire Crews Rush to Sparking Cable in Wroxall

Isle of Wight fire crews sprang into action on Monday morning after a live underground electrical cable was struck by a spade in Wroxall’s High Street.

Just after 7.30am, two fire crews from Newport and Shanklin stations were dispatched to the scene. Builders digging a trench beside a quaint thatched property accidentally hit an underground electrical main, causing dangerous arcing.

Power Cut and Safety Measures Underway

The live cable sparked at the property’s power tail, prompting immediate safety concerns.

One crew quickly called in Scottish and Southern Electricity, who are sending an engineer to isolate the external power supply and make the site safe.
