Drama at Southampton Airport as Plane’s Landing Gear Fails
Fire crews from across Hampshire sprang into action at Southampton Airport after a 70-seat plane hit trouble on landing.
The aircraft, carrying 66 passengers and 4 crew, approached the runway with a hydraulic failure that stopped its landing gear from deploying.
Firefighters Rush to Scene
Emergency teams from Eastleigh, Hightown, St Marys, Redbridge, Portchester, and Cosham joined forces with the airport fire service just after 7.20pm on Friday evening.
Pilot Pulls Off Manual Landing Gear Rescue
The Duty Manager for Eastleigh Airport said: “A 70 seater aircraft was coming in with a hydraulic failure in the landing gear. The pilot and crew managed to activate the landing gear manually.”
The plane touched down safely with no injuries reported. Fire crews stood down shortly after 8.10pm.
