Stranded Cliff Goat Saved in Dramatic Fire Brigade Rescue
Goat Named Gandalf Left Clinging 35 Metres High
A sure-footed goat, dubbed Gandalf by park rangers, found himself in a right pickle when he got separated from his herd and stranded on a sheer cliff edge around 35 metres high on Godstone Road in Kenley.
Firefighters Use Drone to Lure Goat to Safety
Sub Officer Darren Joy revealed the rescue team had spotted Gandalf the day before but didn’t know how long he had been stuck. “There was no clear way back up for him and it was steep,” he said.
Firefighters acted fast. Their drone team played a key role by distracting the nervous goat. This clever tactic let crews safely reel Gandalf up using a line. “Thankfully, he was very well-behaved and came away unhurt,” said Joy.
Fire Brigade Urges Public to Call Professionals
“Firefighters love animals and we’re always ready to help distressed or injured creatures,” explained Joy. “We urge people not to risk their own safety trying to rescue animals but to call 999 and let us step in with the right kit.”
The Brigade was alerted at 9.28am, with firefighters from Purley, Wimbledon, and Edmonton wrapping up the rescue by 12.35pm.
