Heroic Firefighters Rescue Cliff-Stranded Goat
Gandalf, the usually agile goat, found himself in a sticky situation after getting stranded 35 metres high on a cliff edge near Godstone Road in Kenley. Separated from his herd, the goat was unable to climb back to safety.
Daring Drone Rescue
Sub Officer Darren Joy revealed, “The goat had been spotted the day before, but we don’t know how long he’d been stuck. The cliff was steep with no clear way back up.” Firefighters acted fast, with their drone team arriving on the scene to help.
“The drone distracted Gandalf, allowing crews to throw a line over him and pull him to safety. Thankfully, he was very well-behaved and came away unhurt.”
Fire Brigade Warns Public: Leave Animal Rescues to the Experts
“Firefighters love animals and are always ready to help distressed or injured creatures,” explained Sub Officer Joy. “But we urge people not to risk their own safety trying to rescue animals. The first call should always be to the RSPCA. If specialist equipment is needed—as in this case—we step in.”
The rescue operation started at 9:28am and wrapped up by 12:35pm, with firefighters from Purley, Wimbledon, and Edmonton stations all pitching in.
